Chicken and Veggie Bone Broth Soup--Spirit Cleanse
This is a trick I like to use when I am on cleanses or preparing to do spiritual work and have a specific diet to follow. This soup has saved me on many occasions because of its minimal seasonings. It really shows you how much flavor is actually in the food we consume if we keep it whole and give it the right simmering time to open up it's natural flavors.
What I like to do is buy a whole roasted chicken from the market or roast my own chicken in the oven. When it is completed I like to take the dark meat sections off of the chicken that are still on the bone and put it into the crockpot with the bone broth that I made. Then I add the following veggies and herbs for flavor and let it cook on low for 5 hours. After I turn the soup off, I let it sit for 3 hours in the pot and slow cook the rest of the time in it's own heat. This makes it so that you don't over cook the soup and still have flavor in the veggies. When the soup is complete, I take out the dark meat and separate it from the bone and put the meat back into the soup.
Here are the ingredients from my last soup:
-1 bunch of gold beats peeled with the greens chopped up and added in
-1 handful of crimini mushrooms
-1 hand full of small potatoes cut in halves
-4 carrots sliced up
-3 celery stalks sliced up -1/3 of an onion sliced up
-1 bay leaf
-4 white sage leaves
-1 tablespoon of fresh rosemary chopped up
-2 pieces of chicken (roasted or raw)
-1 tsp. of salt (optional depending on what type of cleanse or diet you are on)
The beauty of this recipe is that it teaches us to really taste the flavors in different foods and learn how to season our food naturally with the flavors that are already in food. Feel free to play with different herbs and spices depending on how deep you want to take your cleanse.
Also, REMEMBER to save the bones from your roasted chicken to make another batch of bone broth with.
